Food and Family Part II

Making croutons—see recipe below

Food and Family go together! My grandson, Spencer and I are having a grand old time preparing croutons for his favorite Caesar salad. Making croutons is easy and fun. Here’s another FREE Recipe from Shuga’s Cookin’:

Ingredients:

loaf of Italian bread
1” cubes or 1” x 1/2” thick chunks
6 Tbs salted butter
3 Tbs olive oil
4 large cloves of garlic minced
sprinkles of coarse sea salt
herbs of choice such as chopped parsley and thyme

Directions:

melt butter together with olive oil in large skillet. sauté garlic until soft but do not brown. Put  cubes of bread in skillet over medium high heat tossing and browning until they are thoroughly coated and toasted on all sides.  Sprinkle with coarse sea salt and toss while still in pan. Remove croutons to paper towels and sprinkle with herbs. They will keep for several days in ziploc baggy or freeze until ready to use!
